HISTORY OF CTME

The Center of Technology in Marine Engineering (CTME) was established in the Department of Marine Engineering (MED), Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) through the Polytechnic Transformation Roadmap in 2010. The process started with the development of a niche area of study and research program in every polytechnic where MED is selected as a niche area in the PUO.

  Since then, CTME has planned and implemented various activities aimed at human capital development and upgrading of facilities and infrastructure in the Marine Engineering Department to make it suitable for reference by external agencies, whether government agencies or private companies in shipping. All planned activities are focused on the achievement of the KPIs set by the Polytechnic Education Department (JPP) based on 7 elements. The successful execution of the planned activities in CTME is in line with CTME’s vision and mission.

DEFINITION OF NICHE AREA

Marine Engineering

Specifically, marine engineering is the discipline of applying engineering sciences, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, and computer science, to the development, design, operation and maintenance of watercraft propulsion and on-board systems and oceanographic technology.

As such, CTME focuses on its vision and mission to be the center of reference in marine engineering field towards the development of research, innovation and competence training to produce world-class human capital. This niche area has gained support not only in the country but also abroad.
