DIPLOMA IN MARINE ENGINEERING
Course Description
SYNOPSIS
The Diploma in Marine Engineering Program includes elements of knowledge and engineering practices related to the field of marine engineering. It emphasizes the operation and maintenance of the ship’s operational systems and auxiliary equipment, marine power generation, shipbuilding, and ship architecture. It also includes knowledge of basic engineering techniques. This program runs for seven semesters including industrial training (sea training) for 12 months. Education and training programs are conducted to meet the minimum level of skills and competence set in the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 2010 as well as related national and international standards and guidelines. Graduates who complete this program will be exempted from sitting the Competency Certificate Examination Part A for Second Engineer Officer and Chief Engineer Officer ≥ 3000 kW without limit by the Marine Department, Ministry of Transport (MOT) Malaysia.

CAREER PROSPECTS
Graduates of a Diploma in Marine Engineering with a certificate of competency are eligible to serve as:
• Marine Engineer
• Superintendent
• Marine Officer
• Assistant engineer
• Maritime Institution Lecturer
• Assistant Engineer in Shipyard, Heavy Industry, and Power Plant
SPM graduates
1. Malaysian
2. Have SPM or equivalent
3. Pass History (SPM 2013 and above)
4. Obtained FIVE (5) honours in the following subjects:
1. Malay
2. English
3. Mathematics
4. Additional Mathematics OR Physics OR Science
5. ONE (1) other subjects that has not been taken into account
5. Candidates do not have visual (blindness, colour blindness), hearing, speech, physical, or learning disabilities that make practical work difficult
6. Pass the interview, written test, and colour blindness test
7. Male Candidates Only
Graduates other than SPM

APEL graduate
1. Malaysian
2. Obtain an APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning) certificate from MQA for admission to the diploma (Level 4)
3. Have experience working in a related field
