The Department of Marine Engineering

SYNOPSIS

The Diploma in Marine Engineering Program includes elements of knowledge and engineering practices related to the field of marine engineering. It emphasizes the operation and maintenance of the ship’s operational systems and auxiliary equipment, marine power generation, shipbuilding, and ship architecture. It also includes knowledge of basic engineering techniques. This program runs for seven semesters including industrial training (sea training) for 12 months. Education and training programs are conducted to meet the minimum level of skills and competence set in the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 2010 as well as related national and international standards and guidelines. Graduates who complete this program will be exempted from sitting the Competency Certificate Examination Part A for Second Engineer Officer and Chief Engineer Officer ≥ 3000 kW without limit by the Marine Department, Ministry of Transport (MOT) Malaysia.
